During the London Design Festival 2014, Ross Lovegrove will present the DIATOM chair together with the new series of SystemX for Yamagiwa, the Japanese lighting company. The presentation will take place at the Moroso showroom as part of Moroso’s celebration its ongoing relationship with London and its designers, between 15-30 September.
“The concept of DIATOM is to achieve a trinity between the material, technology and function, therefore to achieve lightness with stiffness, extrapolate the maximum properties from the aluminum and the manufacturing process whilst providing a chair that benefits from all these qualities as a comfortable, indoor/outdoor vertical stacking chair that is generic and long lasting in typological and useful terms.
It harnesses the highly refined art of metal pressing employed in the automotive industry, transferred over to the furniture industry, retaining as it does a minimum skin material employment made possible by its spherical geometry and embossed texture”. Ross Lovegrove 2014
Ross Lovegrove will also take part in the Talks with 100% Design programme for 2014. Together with Micheal Pawlyn, they will be discussing biomimicry and its influence on architecture and design.
Thursday 18th September 16.30 at the 100% Design, London.
